what is it

modified 6/03/98

the waveform display software is a reporting tool that displays a graphical representation of waveform data, including the voltages, currents, and harmonics that compose a waveform. waveform display plots the data that has been collected from impacc metering and circuit breaker devices onto a graph so that you can more easily view and analyze the data.

the waveform display graph looks similar to the screen of an oscilloscope. (click here to see a sample waveform screen) waveform display allows you to see the harmonics that are present throughout the distribution system as well as the magnitude, date, and time of power sags and swells. you can manipulate the display to view different components of the waveform independently or simultaneously.

waveform data is captured by certain impacc metering and circuit breaker devices. this data is then downloaded from the device to series iii via an incom network and saved to a file. (click here to see the download waveform screen) after the data is downloaded, one can view and analyze the waveform through the waveform display software.

waveform display uses the "raw" data that has been collected from a device. the data does not have to be converted or specially formatted before you can view it through the waveform display software.

what is a waveform?

according to the ieee definition, a waveform is "a manifestation or representation (that is, graph, plot, oscilloscope presentation . . . etc.) or a visualization of a wave, pulse, or transition." a waveform shows the quality and composition of electrical power during a specified period of time.

waveform data is the set of values that are captured by various devices. for example, an iq analyzer can capture either eight cycles of waveform data at the rate of 32 samples per cycle and two cycles of waveform data at the rate of 128 samples per cycle, for a total of 256 sample values.

what do i order and install?

if you are currently running the impacc series iii program and want to run the waveform software on the same computer, you would order wdisps3 which comes as software which is keyed to the same key that which your series iii software uses. if, on the other hand, you wish to use this waveform software on another computer, separate from that which is running series iii, catalog number wavedisp would be required. this software comes with it's own key.

in summary, you have two choices as shown below:

  1. cat #: wdisps3 style #: 8163a60g01 = for series iii
  2. cat #: wavedisp style #: 8163a45g01 = stand-alone
