impacc series iii what is it
impacc is cutler-hammer's system of electrical metering and protection devices and the communications network and software used to monitor and control those devices.
series iii is the software component of the impacc system that communicates with the devices (click here to see sample screen). through this communication, series iii allows one to view device readings, physically control devices, collect device information, set device alarm checking parameters, and much more. series iii uses the client/server model of program communication. in this model, the series iii software acts as the client, sending control commands and making requests for information to the devices, which as as servers.
the functions that are available to series iii depend upon the functions supported by the specific device that is being monitored or controlled. some versions of series iii support only a subset of the control functions.
the heart of the impacc series iii system is the incom communications network and chip. specifically designed for use in a high-noise environment, such as an electrical distribution system, the incom chip allows the compatible monitor and control devices to communicate with the impacc series iii system.
all impacc series iii compatible devices communicate with series iii through a coni (computer operated network interface) expansion card, installed in the pc, or a mint (master incom network translator) attached to an rs-232 port.
