IQ Energy SentinelTM Provides Accurate, Affordable Platform for Intelligent Energy Management

Pittsburgh, PA, June 3, 1997 — Cutler-Hammer's new IQ Energy SentinelTM offers facilities managers a powerful, cost-effective means to manage energy allocation and utilization with pinpoint accuracy.

The IQ Energy Sentinel is a compact, microprocessor-based, energy submeter that represents an alternative to separate watt meters, watt-hour meters and watt demand meters -- at roughly one-third the installed cost. The device continuously measures power, peak demand and energy values with an accuracy of plus-or-minus one percent.

Its easy to mount and install, and its compact size allows a wide range of retrofit applications. And, it's small enough for installation into panelboards.

On-board communications capabilities of the IQ Energy Sentinel allow data to be transmitted from each meter to either an IQ Central Energy Display or a personal computer when using the Integrated Monitoring, Protection and Control Communication (IMPACC) power distribution monitoring, communications and control system.

The IQ Central Energy Display, which features a push-button-actuated user interface with LED display, can be used to select and view values for up to 50 IQ Energy Sentinels. Readings for user-defined subsections -- such as individual building tenants or industrial process lines -- can also be retrieved.

"Perhaps the single most important benefit of the IQ Energy Sentinel," said Doug Dillie, product line manager, "is that facilities management can now see the total plant energy picture in much finer resolution -- right down to the level of individual pieces of equipment. As a result, they can generate a profile that lets them associate specific energy costs with each department or process, and identify opportunities to reduce consumption and improve energy efficiencies."

The universal mount IQ Energy Sentinel with internal C7's includes integral 400A C7's and may be applied on a load to 400A. The universal mount IQ Energy Sentinel for external C7's can be applied with a wide range of C7 ratios and may be used with loads to 4000A.

Cutler-Hammer, a part of Eaton Corporation, with sales of approximately $2 billion is one of the world's leading suppliers of power distribution equipment and electrical control products. Power distribution equipment includes the most complete family of circuit breakers in the industry, ranging from miniature breakers rated from 120 volts up to world class vacuum breakers rated up to 38 kilovolts, metering products, automatic transfer switches, switchgear, vacuum interrupters, and IMPACC communications products. These products are used wherever there is a demand for electrical power -- in residences, high-rise apartments, commercial sites, institutions, and factories.
