overview

netpower tools manages the process of collecting power distribution data from device servers and merging it to a central odbc database, with nouser intervention, at predefined time intervals -- daily or weekly. the odbc database then provides the composite information to client applications such as netpower trend to display load profiles and netpower bill to calculate energy bills.

the advantage of distributing data storage to device servers is that the backbone network need not be available for data collection, and no data is lost when the ethernet backbone is temporarily shut down.

netpower tools can also be used to archive and restore historical data.
