impacc is cutler-hammer's system of electrical metering and protection devices
and the software used to monitor and control those devices. modbus is a communications protocol that stipulates
how data is transmitted across a serial bus.
to permit impacc devices to be integrated into industrial communications and distributed
control systems, the impacc-modbus gateway supports a subset of the modbus protocol.
the impacc-modbus gateway enables a system that uses the modbus protocol to communicate
with impacc devices. it permits your modbus-based system to:
- receive data from impacc devices. for example, one might request the value of the
phase a current from an iq analyzer.
- send commands to impacc devices. for example, one might send a command to close
a breaker, or start a motor.
available from cutler-hammer are two modbus gatway products. the first is the stand
alone item pictured to the left which is an industrial computer running software which will communicate to all
impacc devices and enable the user to configure holding and input registers. (the instruction manual, il 17545,
for this product can be found in the literature section of the communications home page or by clicking here).
the second modbus gateway product is the modbus gateway addon to series iii. this will turn the computer which is already
running the series iii software package into a modbus gateway. after installing this add-on package the customer
will notice more pull down menu options which enables the configuration of holding and input registers as well
as one of the com ports as a modbus gateway.
